About Us

We aspire to see Bab-al-Noor become model organization which supports Muslims with visual impairment lead their own living and participate in the development of the country.

Relighting the Sight.

There are about four million individuals with visual impairment in Ethiopia. These persons, particularly, Muslim children with visual impairment do not have access to learning Islamic religion and academic subject mainly because of low awareness of the society, lack of braille/adaptive technology materials, associated techniques and lack of organization that works to solve the problem.
To alleviate this problem, Bab-al-Noor has been established as a philanthropic nongovernmental organization receiving its license from the Council of Oromia Islamic affairs.

Bab-al-Noor works to establish Madrassa and provide service and support for the children with visual impairment so that they can attend Islamic teaching and practice their religion, academic subjects to lead their living and contribute their share for the development of their country.

Bab-al-Noor creates conducive Islamic learning environment for the children with visual impairment by providing access to braille reading and writing, using audio recording devices and receiving necessary support and services.

The organization provides children with mobility and the use of audio-devices, braille and computer training so that they can learn Islamic religion together with academic subjects at their residential center where by they receive food and sanitation, medical and transport, electric and water services.

Over the last six years, in Adama, Shashemene and Sebeta Towns, Bab-al-Noor gave training for visually impaired children on reading Quran and academic subjects in braille; many of the children (both female and male) were able to read and write in braille; created opportunity for some students’ international scholarship on Islamic teaching.

The organization has currently been teaching and training the visually impaired children at rental residential center in Sheger City. For the coming academic year, Bab-al-Noor has planned to admit 20 children between 7-15 years for long term training, and above 15 for short term training. Accordingly, babalnuur hopes that Muslim individuals and their institutions, other governmental and nongovernmental organizations woul render technical, material and financial support to provide relevant service and support for the visually impaired students attending the training at the organization.
